The biggest gaming event of the year is nearly upon us and is sure to be packed full of exciting live demos, reveal trailers and surprise announcements.
Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, The Division, Fallout 4, Mad Max, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Mirror's Edge 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battlefront, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End & XCOM 2 are just some of the many games confirmed to be there, and those are just the ones we know about.
What are you hoping to see at this years E3? Persona 5, perhaps? Maybe Quantic Dream's next game? If reports are to be believed we may even get to see The Last Guardian resurface too!
The main event actually starts next week but as far as conferences go, those begin THIS evening. Kicking off with the Oculus livestream tonight at 6pm BST (10am PDT / 1pm EDT) - Same time as the Steam Summer Sale is due to begin.
Following that we have Bethesda's conference on Sunday. Fallout 4 and DOOM are a given but I'm really hoping we get to see a reveal of Dishonored 2 as well. Fingers crossed!
Monday covers the usual main 4 - Sony, MS, Ubi & EA, whereas Tuesday we have Nintendo, Square Enix and the new PC Gaming Show.
Excited? I sure am! - For a full list of conference times and stream links please see my forum post here
Just a quick reminder that the Steam Summer Sale is due to start tonight at around 6pm BST.
As always - wait for the dailies or buy on the last day of the sale if what you're looking for doesn't get one. They may go cheaper!
Personally, I'm not looking to buy very much this year but I'll probably keep an eye out for the Homeworld Remastered Collection, Kholat, Black Mesa and maybe Dying Light too depending on price. Then see what else catches my eye. - That is unless any of you have any specific recommendations? Drop them on the forum here if so, I'll be sure to give them a look too!
As for recommendations from me? If you don't already own these I'd consider picking them up during the sale if they get a good deal:
As the 2014/15 English Premier League season draws to a close, so too does the annual STR Fantasy Premier League season.
As usual, this year saw a vigorous and highly competitive battle for supremacy (ahem), and a highly typical outcome. Congratulations to our winner - the only man to hold the coveted STR FPL trophy in its six years of existence - Isileth. Said the man himself:
"I had a dream.
I vowed not to rest until I saw this dream fulfilled. And so with the sun glinting off my five Fantasy Premier League trophies and the wind whipping at my hair making me look both handsome and a little bit dangerous I set off on my long hard quest,
I prepared for this, trained both body and mind. I climbed the to the highest frozen peak, braved the cold and the perilous heights. Cut my way through dense jungle, battling exotic beasts and poisonous creatures. Travelled to far away lands to consult the wisest masters. Fought the strongest warriors from all corners of the globe.
Then I left it to last minute to make my team and took the lead in game week 2 and never let it go.
The sixth Fantasy Premier League trophy was mine!"
We'll be back in August to kickstart another vain attempt to deprive Isileth of silverware, as the new season gets underway - new participants always welcome!
After a month of discussions and votes, this week has marked the change of something quite important to our group and a topic we have revisited a couple of times over the years - our name.
For many years we were known as the Shattered Star Confederation, or SSC for short. The points of our Shattered Star logo symbolizing each of the 5 ideals we were founded with and lived up to as a group and as individuals; Freedom, Equality, Honor, Integrity & Friendship. Back in 2004 however and due to indifferences within the group and some of its upper management, a group of us splintered off from the Confederation and founded our own community. Still identifying ourselves as Shattered Star members whilst keeping the ideals and trying for a more relaxed and fair way of running things, we became the Shattered Star eXiles. SSX.
Two years later in August of 2006 the Shattered Star Confederation, the group in which we originated from when we split off and became eXiles, closed its doors for good. Leaving us (the Shattered Star eXiles) as the only remaining group of the Shattered Star.
We have talked about our Exiles name a few times over the years as it is something we have all felt very differently about but after several discussions and votes, this week marks a move towards changing that. We remain the same group of friends flying under the Shattered Star banner like we have since '97 but from this point on we will no longer be identifying our community as the Exiles. We are and always have been The Shattered Star.
Star Citizen and Rocksmith 2014 make appearances again here but there are several fresh faces as well as some music vids I recorded at an awesome Aussie Floyd gig.
Bloodborne, Ori and the Blind Forest & Cities: Skylines are 3 of the best games I've played so far this year and absolutely brilliant. Bloodborne being my current GOTY runner. - Be sure to give them a look if you haven't already!
Anyhow, here's a rundown of our YouTube uploads covering March:
For something a bit different (who said we were just restricted to games chat?!), I saw these guys on Friday night:
"The Australian Pink Floyd Show, more frequently referred to as the Australian Pink Floyd, are a Pink Floyd tribute band formed in 1988 in Adelaide, South Australia. Their live shows attempt to recreate the look, feel, and sound of Pink Floyd's later world tours, employing visual aids such as lasers, inflatables and a large display panel similar to Mr Screen. The Australian Pink Floyd Show play venues worldwide.
The band are noted for replicating the nuances of Pink Floyd's work. The guitar rig of Steve Mac closely resembles David Gilmour's set-up, and includes elements custom-produced by Pete Cornish, who has worked extensively with Gilmour. The band associates itself with individuals who have worked with Pink Floyd over the years, including Colin Norfield (who has worked as a sound engineer for David Gilmour in his solo career and for Pink Floyd during their 1994 Division Bell Tour and Clive Brooks - Nick Mason's long-time drum technician.
The show includes a round screen with intelligent lights arranged around its perimeter. During a concert, movies and animations are displayed on-screen, complementing the band's light show. Inflatables (such as the pig used by Pink Floyd during the Division Bell Tour, and Skippy - the band's own giant pink kangaroo and named after the Australian TV series Skippy The Bush Kangaroo) are frequently employed in the band's shows."
I am happy to report that the Shattered Star organization in Star Citizen is now up and running!
Some of our members are already in the organization with invites going out to everyone else we know to have backed the game (assuming we know your SC handle of course!). If you're missing an invite just give us a shout or hit the "Join Us Now" button on the org page and we'll get you in asap!
To everyone else - Has it been a while since you played something with the community here?. Looking for something new and exciting to play? Perhaps you'd just like to help build and establish our next group? Or maybe you're a visitor and like the sound of this place? (have a read of our charter). -> Come join us!. We'd love to have you along for the ride ;)
The Shattered Star Community org can be found here, with our membership roster over here. We look forward to seeing you ingame!
I didn't really want to be the one to bring this subject up again but since we always said we'd revisit it given the previous split vote, now is as good a time as any I think. It has been well over 2 years since we last had this discussion, believe it or not.
Star Citizen may not be 100% complete and out the door as a finished project yet but it is already becoming a thing for us and looks certain to be the home of our next group if all goes to plan. A few of us have already been playing Arena Commander together in there on a regular basis (more are welcome to come join!), we've been sharing stuff over on our YouTube page along with social media and yesterday we opened up our Star Citizen organization. We're going to be known as the Shattered Star Community in there, SSC as short.
When we were planning to go by the name "Burning Stars" and I was uploading videos to YouTube to that affect, I made a separate version of our YouTube intro with a little note to say that the Burning Stars were "A Squadron of the Shattered Star Exiles". So as to not confuse people seeing the Exiles name elsewhere. Going back to do the same for the Shattered Star Community is going to sound a little weird I think.
Shattered Star Community - A Squadron of the Shattered Star Exiles.
If it were written the other way around it would look and sound fine though:
Shattered Star Exiles - A Squadron of the Shattered Star Community
Burning Stars - A Squadron of the Shattered Star Community
But having Community be a group/division/squad of the Exiles sounds really weird and confusing to me.
We have the "Shattered Star Community" above the door here and re-claim our =SSC= tag along with it. The group as a whole would be identified as the community it is rather than having the Exiles up there which we can all agree from previous discussions has very split meaning and importance among us all. Exiles means more to some than others, in some cases has a different meaning or intention attached to it entirely and some of us don't care for the name at all or identifying ourselves with it. I think we're always going to be split on the Exiles name and our previous talks have pretty much proved that. As such I want to try and stay clear from us focusing on that too much as it's something we'll never agree on. Whatever the case, in the 11 1/2 years I have been part of the the Shattered Star we have always referred to our home and our group as a whole as the "community". It's what we are and always have been.
If one of our groups in the future wants to go by a particular tag/name, that's cool. Like the examples above, one of our groups could decide to continue using the Exiles name if they wanted but we bring people back into the "community". The Shattered Star Exiles in X Game(s) would be a group(s) within the Shattered Star Community. Same again with the Burning Stars example, Exiles of the Shattered Star, The Shattered Star, or any other variations people choose to use in the games they play. We as a whole all come together as the Shattered Star Community. SSC.
Please take the time to vote over in the thread itself. Thanks for reading!
