In heavy and assault mechs, there's a long-running tendency to shave armor off the legs, if you need an extra half ton or so for ammunition or equipment or just another gun. That habit, of late, seems to be getting taken to greater extremes, with some mechs rolling around with half armor on their legs or less. Coupled with the other old trend of shoving ammo bins in the legs, there's a lot of large mechs running around on lightly-padded powderkegs. It might be worth aiming low, if you aren't already, until one or both of these design trends subside.
