Well i've been watching blue gender, i'm upto episode 24 and it's all falling apart, i really don't think they are going to have a "and they all lived happily ever after" in fact i forsee a tragic ending on the cards, those japanese sure do know how to make misery an artform.

Anyway this got me thinking to classic tragic endings in anime, NGE and Berserk instantly spring to mind, the berserk ending in particular [Spoilers edited - some people haven't seen the Anime you speak of - BD] and i was wondering if there has ever been a sad anime ending to top that? or just remeniss about others that come close :p

Saikano. Most depressing ending I've ever seen. Dunno if I should spoil it though.

To be fair, Beserk was an unfinished product. There was supposed to be more episodes but for one reason or another it was never finished. So we are left with the episodes we have. However it does continue in the Manga.

Yeah i've read a few of the manga's and i know they toned it down for the anime (and the first ep of the anime is really the last of the series) but the ep they actually end it on is pretty damn depressing just as a stand alone, especially if you are not familiar with the original manga (which i wasn't when i first saw it, i read the manga after) and soz for the spoiler BD, didn't mean to be ruining it for ne1 who hadn't seen it, shoulda thought of that :smack: :p :o .

P.s. Added Saikano to my list to watch :thumb:

Saikano wasn't too bad for me, due to it coming right after my Kimi ga Nozomu Eien marathon (now that was a roller coaster).

Any new word on the Saikano live-action movie?

I would definitely add Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien to the list. Be warned, it contains adult content, but an another must-see regardless.

Seeing BH's name reminded me of Gungrave - the ending IMO wasn't exactly all flowers and roses.

The ending to X by clamp and from what i have heard the ending to She the ultimate weapon are very sad endings.
