Install took ages, but once I was in I enjoyed myself quite a bit.
Spent 2 and three quarter hours on it last night as my newly created Human Warrior. The Character Creation process was suitably deep, and the start of the game itself was very good. I also like the ability to switch quickly between third person and isometric views. I am tending to use a KOTOR-esque view for exploring and then panning out to isometric for combat.
Overall, I'm hardly incredibly deep into the game yet but what I have seen is very good. I suspect I will enjoy it a lot.

From the 2 hours I spent on it last night, my initial response is quite the same.
I created a Elf Mage and recommend going through the mage unique starting quest at least once
My game came with the preorder downloadable Golem content,
plus the Gamestop Exp Ring and Wolf Charm, plus I bought the Keep download.
Some additional details for those whom may be interested.
Controls are smooth, story seems quite fresh so far and the art/graphics/sound are all top notch and well polished.
At char creation there are:
3 races (Human, Elf, Dwarf)
3 base classes (Warrior, Rogue, Mage)
1 to 2 background/heritages
Free points for attributes, skills, powers etc.
Each Base Class has its own 4 to 5 different types of power/skill sets for you to choose from.
Also, each Base Class has 4 Specialized Classes to upgrade to, so there are a total of 12 Specialized classes.
Supposedly there are 6 different starting stories mattering on the char creation choices you make.
Since I have only made 1 char... seen 1 so far
Only negative critique I have so far is on their beta community network site that you register the game to.
As my bioware account (created in 2002) had a lil trouble transferring over,
without silly EA account things getting in the way.
That and the new site is not very intuitive to navigate.
Yes, it is still in the "beta" phase, but we should not be forced to join/use a site for content downloads
and game registration until it is ready for full release.

I would agree with you Pad regarding their 'Social Networking' site. I just turned off all online functionality in the Configuration after install, so it doesn't get to communicate with that social site at all - quite a silly idea imo. No interest in using it whatsoever.
Also, one thing I found irritating was that it sets up and automatically runs a background service (even when the game is not running) to look for and grab patches as and when they are made (or so I assume, it was the "daupdater" service). Suffice to say this has been disabled and blocked from running under any circumstances on my machine. I do NOT appreciate stuff like that being setup without my say so.
Generally though, they are both negative points relating to the structure of the game rather than the game itself. So it is not all that bad

i was debating buying this on the pc (stereotypical view of rpg on consoles being wrong)
after a couple of days, how is it feeling? it does look like a pretty game which makes me think i will need a proper graphics card.
But, as i was thinking about getting it - does it come with a recommendation? two pretty positive responses there!! go on, tip me over the edge and actually buy it... or not.

It's a great game, and I would highly recommend it to any RPG fan. I have not checked recently, but at 7 hours playtime I was only at 3% completion, so it has very deep content at very high quality.
If you played Mass Effect, all of the minor towns/areas in DA are actually full of more content than storyline planets in ME had. There really is a lot there, and it is really fun to play.
If you played Baldur's Gate, or The Witcher, you're pretty much guaranteed to love it. Hope that tips you over the edge

After approx. 25hr worth of play time and having all of maybe 16% of the game completed, I must say that this is the RPG I have been waiting for in some time. The storyline is really well done, the way your choices impact how the story unfolds and how your party members react to you is superb, and the fact that you have to unlock your specialisations is wonderful as it means that there is a lot to find/search for.
I'm glad my wife is a gamer and also owns a copy of this game else I'd have many sleepless nights on the sofa from staying up playing.

It's a shame the EU version doesn't come with the cloth map & tin case like the US one does, I like stuff like that heh. (It appears that way on GAME's website anyway..)SL33PY wrote:I ordered the Collectors Edition, should get it on Monday. Will be getting the 360 version before Christmas if I can and the CE too as that comes with the DLC which is 1200 MS points.

Hmm, guess I should have done my research first in to the collectors edition.
I preordered from a local Gamestop and they said the Collectors Edition was only made for consoles...
No idea why they keep hiring clueless #$^%@ over there.
Soooo... looks like I will be buying another copy of this

Haha. I already have plans to roll a Mage once I finish my playthrough. And not kill off all of the optional characters in the game this time.
No Priest and Morrigan as a hybrid healer/DPS character makes life very hard.

Funny you should say that Anubis, as I have Morganna as my caster with the Heal spell in her arsenal and a tactic to heal any member who's health drops below 50%. Works great with having Shale as the tank since he can take a beating. Then I just have to keep an eye on myself (Dalish Ranger) and my other party member, usually Leliandra or Zevran for the extra DPS although it is fun to throw my wardog Boosh in the mix every know and then. Currently working on the Mage tower quest then heading west to the dwarf city area before looking east to Deneram.

I'm curious as to how you make that work healing wise - though I suppose with a Ranger and a Rogue it is easier.
My party is me (Main Tank), Shale (heavy melee DPS), Sten (heavy melee DPS), and Morrigan (Healer/Maged DPS).
I get fantastic DPS, but am constantly encountering issues with regards to soaking damage. Morrigan is really not a healer, and basic heal can only take me so far when factoring in a cooldown and the need for healing on all my DPS. Most fights I can scrabble around enough to make it work, and now that I have some of the high end armour sets the damage I take is reduced to a degree (particularly on my PC, which makes him a far more effective tank than Shale), but if I encounter an opponent with high DPS it can become a real problem.
Morrigan is also badly imbalanced because of the way she is when you get her. She already has skills and attributes invested in unnecessary skills, so rather than a highly effective offensive Mage in one or two disciplines, I have a Mage that is average at many disciplines whilst also being part hybrid-Priest. Unfortunately, due to the slow levelling process, I am just not getting enough skill points to correct the problem - so that again limits my effectiveness as a party.
Because I killed off so many characters I don't have Zevran (unless he is the Dwarf I havent gotten to yet?). My party is restricted to me, Morrigan, Shale, Leliandre, Alastair (who I hate, and thus will not use under any circumstances), my dog, and Sten.
Next playthrough I will be being more careful to gather allies rather than kill them, and will hopefully have a more balanced party as a result that is more viable for the more endgame content. As it is, I may well be wrong, but my healing is just continually going to let me down. I need Morrigan badly to be an effective party, but the fact remains she just cannot be what I need her to be.

I think the dwarf is Ozrhamm or something like that. I haven't gotten to the Dwarf city yet so I'm not sure. As for Zevran
With Morganna, I've learned that the best thing to do with her is always keep her in the back and fling specific spells after casting the hexes that weaken resistance to said spells. This ensures that she'll always be doing something. As for the healing, since I have one tactic set so that she heals party members below 50%, I set the tactics for said members to heal themselves when below 25% using strongest poultices and since she has a lvl 2 Herbalism skill it is easy to make normal health poultices to keep my team at least 50% for most of the time.
The one thing I have learned is that occasionally Leliandra/Zevran or Morganna will draw aggro from mobs and when this happens I have to take my PC's attention off of what he's currently doing to help try and break the nasties off of my softer party members. It can be annoying when 2-3 of them turn at once and start pounding away as they aren't meant to take damage, but deal it out. That's when Morganna's Mind Blast (I think that's what it is called) comes in handy. Stuns long enough for me to start back stabbing and dirty fighting to keep the stuns in place.

Mine are mostly "rape everything in the face".
Elven Primal Archmage is like flipping god mode on.
